Penny For Your Thoughts
Penny For Your Thoughts started out its journey as a book that was roughly going to be over my mother and some stuff from her mom that I have. After working on it I realized it had changed to being about the artists in my life as a child. Now looking at the finished version I realized this was just a book of all my feelings art projects and things that inspired me while I was working from home during the quarantine of 2020.
PFYT is a six signature, 216 page book that started off as a 4 signature, 140 page mock-up. The mock-up has a 1" spine while the finished version has a 2" spine that still can't contain all the pages. I have never seen one of my projects end up so far away from the original idea, and I could not be happier with the final product. The book contains artwork from my mother's mother and father, my mother, my fiancé various unknown/ anonymous artists, and myself. It also includes small items, business cards, and clippings that are important to me or from my past.
PFYT utilizes sketches from my grandmother's tole painting notes, pictures of my grandfather's wood cuttings, wallpaper from my grandparent's house. These are included, because I have been thinking of them a lot and They were some of the first artists I knew. I included artwork and photos from my mother, because she has also been an artists that has inspired me, and a lot of the pieces remind me of my childhood in many ways, which I have also been focused on a lot.
Overall, my goal for PFYT is to have it be an accumulation of all the things in my life that make me happy, inspire me to create art, and how I have been handling the quarantine. This piece will be a constant reminder of one of the craziest experiences I have ever had, and how it fueled my artistic drive.
